‘Couples Retreat’ For Whites Only
You hear about this movie? Something I’m most definitely not interested in. Just read how Universal pictures changed up the promotional poster for it’s UK release. The UK version looks like this:
Can you spot who’s missing? Not only were the images of black actors Faizon Love and Kali Hawk removed from the UK version, their names were also omitted. Wtf? Most naturally it caused a stink and people were offended. Universal ’s replied that ‘it regretted causing offence and has abandoned plans to use the revised poster in other countries… A Universal spokesman said the revised advert aimed ‘to simplify the poster to actors who are most recognisable in international markets’.
Simplify the poster my ass. This shit is mad insulting B. Once the change got called out, Universal decided to stay with the original. Don’t do me no favors Universal. We’ve seen this type of bullshit before. Not saying I’m thinking racism doesn’t exist, but this is getting real tired. Still and all, it’s nice to know the US isn’t the only country that’s got racism on lock.
The good thing is that across the board, critics thought the movie sucked. The bad is how it ruled in the box office this past weekend.

standard for movie posters to use different key art in different markets and will add/remove cast members per market —- Denzel/Hackman Crimson Tide posters will love a lot different—no Denzel—in E Europe than they will in US

Yep. I saw that poster when I was in the States and the London one too. The first thing I thought was “I swear that chubby brother was in this movie in America.” And just moved. Quite an insult.
