I’ma keep this brief. First off, congrats to Kelis and Nas on the birth of their son Knight. It’s not in my character to speak on other people’s b.i., but for real yo, Nas, Kelis, ya’ll gotta clean that shit up. Trust, I know what the eff I’m talking bout. 12 years in the game with wifey. In the music business. 4 kids. Ya’ll think that shit is easy? Eff the alleged sex tapes and rumors of infidelity. Them things is SUPPOSED to come your way, supposed to test the mettle that your union is made up of. You think married couples before you ain’t have to deal with and handle any kinds of that b.s?
For the record, I am not at all advocating that marriage is the end all be all, but if you man enough to put a ring on it, man enough to plant that seed, be man enough to ride through the effin storms that marriage and family brings. Paulie from Goodfellas ain’t lie. You need to go back home God’s Son. Especially since you rappers talk about how gangster ya’ll are. Niggas is on Twitter joking about how you choose women like you choose beats. Keeping a family is truly some gangster shit. Unless your chick is very 7:30. Then you got a valid reason to bounce. I’m talking real crazy though. Because after 12 years in, I realize all women are crazy. Especially when they’re pregnant. Real crazy is if Kelis is stark raving mad, drooling, hair all wild, rocking a Billionaire’s Boy’s Club tee and eating raw bloody chicken in the living room talking about how she’s coming back hard on her next record. Insanity of a spouse might could be a valid reason for divorce.
I look at couples that’s been married 20, 30, 40 years even, and even though they’re older, them cats are truly ready for war. A friend of mine, his parents were married for over 30 years. When his moms was diagnosed with cancer, even though they fought for years, the strength his parents displayed throughout that ordeal was something I had never ever witnessed before. Made me appreciate the true value of marriage. Them years of beefing forged their relationship into steel. And when his mom’s died, I saw how his pops realized how he lost the one true person, that true soldier that would ride through the gates of Hell with him for whatever. And on gp. Something real beautiful B. The more you ride it out, the better it gets. Later is greater.
Not to emulate white, but for real, if we as Black people can’t keep a family, we will stay losing. And I like to stay winning.

It’s one thing to ask for someone to go back, it’s another for the person to use the kid as a weapon of choice to fight. I dont’ know the detail of their relationship but it doesn’t look good on how kelis is using what she thinks is a bargaining chip to get what she wants regardless of the impact on the kid. When two people no longer want to be with each other, that is their choice but the kid that is brought in didn’t have the choice to be in this situation. “KID FIRST” it’s no longer a Nas and Kelis fight , there is a new life that needs positivity in his or her environment.

Your’re right pregnant women are crazy. When my wife was pregnant with my son she was a raving maniac at times. We had probably the most heated arguments at that time. She even threatened to leave.
This hurts my heart as I am a huge Nas fan and he and Kelis look like a complete jackasses.
I really wished they made it much more difficult to get married like taking a test. Could you imagine how long marriages would last if you had to take your marriage test two or three times?

This post was very good sir. I do believe that it is important to work on the issues and that marriage is a relationship, and something you have to continually work at it. however, his only obligation (in my humble opinion) is to take care of his son. If he and Kelis are done, than so be it. There are way too many families who ’stayed together for the kids’, and the kids had to witness their parents be unhappy for years. Its not fair. Though, I came from a two parent home, I would be devastated if I knew that their 30+ years of marriage was for my well being and not for their own happiness..

That’s a great point. Not trying to judge any relationship, and remaining unhappy for the sake of your kids is not wise.
Still, I know folks who got divorced because they claimed unhappiness which was caused by their inability to hang out at the latest music industry functions. There’s a difference between being unhappy and being selfish. I’m referring to the selfishness in a lot of married couples.

Yo CJ I co-sign this to THE FULLEST fam. I hate to see the Black family always destroyed or dissolved. Even the term “baby mama” makes me ill because it just cheapens and lessens the whole idea of a structured family. I know that often times shit dont work out, but my folks have been married 30 years, so I know about that strength that you spoke of. We all have storms to weather, but without struggle, there is no progress.

It’s always disappointing when couples break up, but even more so when there is a child involved. They should have stayed together throughout the birth of the child and if things did not work out then so be it, but to break up with your girl while she is pregnant seems cold hearted.

It’s funny how most of us fellas don’t look at what it is we do to MAKE girls crazy. I’ve done wrong, but I can admit that most of the time (at least in normal relationships I’ve had & seen), guys do most of the dirt and they get mad when girls either pay them back or stop messing with them altogether. I have a friend that goes out all the time but doesn’t think it “looks” right for his girl to go out w/ her friends. So, she stays home w/ the 2 kids while he’s out having a great time. That kind of ish makes girls crazy: jealous paranoia, picking fights, and sometimes looking for the pay back (your $ or another dude). There’s a crazy double standard that gets accepted like it’s all good, and hip-hop only feeds that fire. We talk about how refreshing it is to have positive rappers like Common and Kanye to dilute the gangsta, but listen to their lyrics closely and you’ll see how they’re worse than all the 50 Cents in the world, because they should know better than to spew woman-hate. They only seem concerned w/ dissing women, then they wonder why there are so many rumors going around that they’re gay…

I was with a chick who was going straight 7:30, wouldn’t go to therapy, and ended up trying to go after me with a knife a couple of times before I bounced. So, while I agree that the Black family is an endangered species, and agree with the importance of staying together, no one should have to deal with violence in order to be with somebody.
